Stuttgart 21 / Open Construction Site Days: Visitors and organizers highly satisfied - 81,000 enthusiastic guests over three days
The Stuttgart-Ulm rail project association, together with DB Projekt Stuttgart-Ulm GmbH (DB PSU) and those involved in the construction work, opened the gates of the construction site around Stuttgart Central Station to around 81,000 visitors at the end of today. The new concept with registration for the event worked according to plan on all three days. Visitors to the event, on what is probably Germany's most famous construction site, were delighted.
"We are very happy and grateful that we were able to open the construction site to the public again this year," summarized Bauer, Chairman of the Stuttgart-Ulm rail project association, on the third and final day of the event. "It was always important to us that people could experience the construction progress live on site and get information from the experts. On the first two days, we gained experience with visitor management. For this reason and due to the strong demand, we were able to slightly increase the number of bookable tickets for Easter Monday to 29,000 tickets in the ticket store," says Bernhard Bauer, summarizing the end of the event.
"The numerous visitors were once again proof that people are curious about the new station and the Stuttgart 21 project. We know from conversations that they are looking forward to the new landmark and the first trains, that they are enthusiastic about the chalice-shaped supports with the striking light eyes," continued Bauer. "When walking across the pedestrian walkway, guests experienced that it will be a comfortable station with short distances and good accessibility. People were particularly impressed by how light-flooded the new platform hall is. The natural incidence of light through the already completed light eyes, together with the white exposed concrete of the chalice supports, created a fascinating atmosphere. 'Gigantic', 'inspiring' and 'great' were numerous comments we heard at the information stands and in person. In addition, many visitors were positively surprised at how many SMEs and 'hidden heroes' were and are involved in the construction of the station."
"The event was once again a celebration for the whole family, with lots of information and fact-based exchanges as well as unforgettable insights. Our efforts paid off and our goal was achieved," Bauer sums up. "Most of the guests were impressed by the dimensions of the new main station and the entire Stuttgart 21 project and were convinced of the benefits. My thanks go to my team, who organized everything, and to all the visitors who took the time to attend."
